Ian grew up in Madison Wisconsin where he attended Verona Area High School. Growing up he was always active playing sports, mainly Football and Lacrosse. Early on, he was determined to make the Varsity Lacrosse team as a freshman and to go on to play in college. He achieved both, earning four varsity letters at Verona and getting recruited to play at the University of Indianapolis. In order to achieve his athletic goals, he dedicated himself to training, both in the weight room and on the field. He left Verona as the All-Time leader in Goals, Points, and Wins; all of which still stand today, in addition to being a two time team captain and State Champion his senior year.
He then played lacrosse at Uindy where he was a NCAA tournament semifinalist and 2x GLVC Conference champion. There he learned how to push himself to achieve an even higher level of hard work as he had practice, team lifts, and individuals 5-6 days a week year round. During that time he did agility, speed, and strength training; focusing on Olympic style lifting in addition to more track centric style force development training. After graduating from Uindy, he went to get his Master’s in Business Design and Innovation from Carthage College as well as to finish out his NCAA athletic eligibility on the lacrosse team. He ended the season as the team’s leading goal scorer and an All-Conference Attackman while maintaining a leadership role on the team.
Once he completed his Master’s degree he moved up to the Twin Cities in December of 2024 where he soon took over as Orono’s Varsity Lacrosse Head Coach. He focused on implementing a strong culture that rewards work ethic, high character, humility, being a good teammate, and mental toughness. This resulted in the Varsity team finishing a program best 13-3 and making it to the section finals. Ian’s focus is on the development of his players as people, and providing them with the opportunity to learn life lessons through sport that they can carry with them to help them achieve their highest potential in life.
Ian’s background in training for sports has made his introduction to CrossFit exciting. As he says, “Many of the movements we do in CrossFit workouts are all movements I’ve been doing for years, just not at this pace and volume”. Ian loves to push his limits physically and to try new things, and CrossFit has been able to address both of those things and give him a fun and challenging way to train in his post-collegiate career. He is extraordinarily excited to join and serve the FitHAUS community!
