FitHAUS Featured Couple Molly and Cory Johnson

We’d like to introduce to you our February FitHAUS Featured athletes, and what better day to celebrate a super strong couple than Valentines Day! Please help us celebrate Molly and Cory Johnson this month as our featured athletes! Molly and Cory have been members at the gym for a few years now, and we loved getting to know them! Many of you know Cory as one of the strongest guys in the gym, and if you’ve ever taken a class with Molly, you know she’ll be whooping it up the whole class, and encouraging everyone to keep up the hard work. What you may not know, is that they’ve both got a pretty impressive history with athletics! Between hockey and football at the collegiate level, Cory has set some remarkable records. Molly’s background was in tennis, running, she’s practiced as a yoga and pilates instructor, and she was on Team USA curling team in several world competitions! Molly and Cory have two beautiful little girls who they are very active with outside of the gym as well. Please read below to learn a little more about both of them. Molly and Cory, you two are a power couple, and we are so thankful that you’ve chosen FitHAUS!

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself…

Athletics have always been a huge part of our lives! Between hockey and football at the collegiate level (many years ago…), Cory has set some impressive records. Molly’s background was in tennis, running, and curling and she was on Team USA in several world competitions. We both have demanding careers and we love the outlet FitHAUS provides us with to stay active.

We love to stay active outside the gym by being on the golf course, tennis court, hockey rink or skiing. We spend a lot of time keeping up with our 3 and 1 year-old daughters and introducing them to new activities like skating, swimming, tennis or gymnastics.

2. What made you decide to join FitHAUS? What were you doing prior to coming to FH?

Cory: My fitness routine had been missing something for quite a while and I knew I needed to get back into CrossFit after a handful of years off. Fitness on my own at a “gym” wasn’t cutting it in terms of my fitness progress, but I was also missing a key sense of community.

Molly: Cory made me believe I could do it, and I’m so glad I did! I’ve been a part of many group fitness communities, including teaching yoga and Pilates at several local studios. I have made lifelong, amazing friends through fitness communities and believe the bond you can create when you show up for one another is second to none!

3. What is your favorite thing about FitHAUS?

Cory: The culture. Every day I walk into the gym I laugh, build a stronger relationship, feel an adrenaline rush, become inspired, and walk out the door with a sense of accomplishment, and ready to embrace whatever the day has in store for me. That culture is not everywhere, and certainly can’t be manufactured.

Molly: I really value how supportive everyone is. I go to the gym now to have fun and challenge myself, not to be the best at anything and I can do that with a great group of people at FitHAUS!

4. What are some of the accomplishments related to physical fitness that you are most proud of. Do you have any fitness goals moving forward?

Cory: I am excited to compete in my first Open in 7 years! Competing in the FitHAUS Throwdown last fall was a lot of fun, a big thanks to Molly and Jake for the push. Moving forward I want to be consistent, and take care of my body outside the gym (mobility, proper nutrition, etc.) so I can continue to show up and compete with myself on a daily basis.

Molly: I’m proud of rebuilding my strength postpartum. My main goal is to focus on functional movement (and having fun!) so I can have the energy to participate in various sports with Cory and the girls for decades to come.

5. How has being physically active bettered your life outside of the gym?

We believe the resilience and mental toughness though hard work in the gym serves us well in other areas of life… in addition to helping us maintain high energy to keep up with our girls! We love conversations centered around health and fitness, and when one of us gets home from a 530AM class and we tell our girls what we did at the gym, our oldest loves hearing about it!

6. What is your favorite class or movement/skill? What is your least favorite movement?

Molly: wall balls (least), though I’m trying to become more efficient! I finally got back my strength to do strict pull-ups again so I’ll say those are my favorite now that I’m working on progress!

Cory: Like I told Jason the other day, I “enjoy them all”! I don’t know if there is a better overall movement for you than the front squat, and I love the feeling of your legs being on fire after. Least favorite… that’s tough, but probably the farmer’s carry.

7. What advice would you give to someone looking to join FITHAUS?

Molly: everyone has been new at some point. Tell the people around you in class you’re new and they’ll embrace you and you’ll soon have new friends!

Cory: I would say immerse yourself and be vulnerable. Regardless of what you are looking for that day when you walk into the gym, you can find it. Maybe it is to push yourself to another level next to someone you have never met, or maybe it is getting some light movement in next to your best friend. Be you, and you will get the most out of the experience.
