For those of you who have been a member of FitHaus for at least a year, you know it's that time again ... The CrossFit Open season! And with that come our weekly Friday night 'parties'. Starting this Friday (Feb 22nd), and continuing for the next 5 weeks, we'll celebrate our community of athletes, catch up with those from other classes, and give the weekly Open workout our best effort!
There will be beverages and snacks ... and kids for your kids to play with, and a theme, and plenty of fun ... and some fitness.
If you're new this year, or if you just have no idea what I'm talking about, let me start over ...
The CrossFit Open is a worldwide event, done in CrossFit boxes from the US, to Iceland, to South Africa, and everywhere in between. Starting Thursday, Feb 21st one workout will be announced. Everyone across the globe will do this workout and submit their 'scores' by the following Monday at 7pm. There will be an 'RX' workout and a 'Scaled' workout announced. We will be doing this workout the next day (Friday) in all CrossFit classes, but the real fun comes Friday Evening at the 5:30pm class. We'll gather at the gym at 5:30pm, discuss the workout, talk strategy, assign 'heats' and judges, and give the workout our best. Before or after your heat, there will be time to cheer on your fellow athletes, grab a drink or snack, and chat. Bring your friends and family members to help cheer you on! And to make it all more interesting, each week will have a theme that you can choose to participate in or not. Because working out in costumes is entertaining ... usually mostly for the spectators.
Three things to do:
1. You can sign up for the CrossFit Open HERE (this is awesome, but not something required to participate in Friday Night Lights)! It's $20, and makes the Open more fun year after year (my opinion only ... some would say the opposite is true).
2. Then, be sure to watch for the workout announcements Thursday nights on games.CrossFit.com website (we'll post it in Wodify after).
3. Finally, gather your themed outfits and your cheering sections.
... and we'll see you Friday Night!
