This week our FitHAUS Featured Athlete is none other than Tony Sarenpa. There are two things you can count on when working out with Tony. First, tony will never give less than his best, you can see that he is always working to be just a little bit faster, and a little stronger. The other is that although we know Tony loves a little friendly competition (he may be pacing himself with the fastest person in the gym), he is always there there to cheer on the last finisher. He brings a great energy to every WOD and is encouraging to all FitHAUS athletes. Tony, we being able to call you a FitHAUS athlete... you are one heck of an athlete, as well as a great friend to FitHAUS.
1. Tell us a little bit about yourself:
My home town is Plymouth MN, and have been married to my wife Nicole of 16 years! We’ve got 3 energetic and creative daughters, Halle 10, Amelia Kate 8, and Little Jac 3. Nicole and I both went to theUniversity of Denver came back to MN to get into Real Estate. I originally wanted to just purchase and renovate houses for investment and realized how much I love helping people get what they want through real estate.
As a kid I grew up going to art galleries and spending a lot of time making things. That lead me to wheel thrown ceramics and the hobby developed into something that funded much of my college tuition. My visual arts experience helped me understand design and physical elements in houses and construction. Understanding these things now helps benefit with my clients.
2. What made you decide to join FitHAUS?
The warm and caring people, the FitHAUS community, the competition, the location, world class coaches that add more than just fitness.
3. What were you doing prior to coming to FH?
I spent 10 Years at different gym. Prior to that, I was eating a ton and working out none. I weighed 230 lbs and I don’t want to get back to that place ever again.
4. What is your favorite thing about FitHAUS?
A community that really cares about me, and all of the FitHAUS members. FitHAUS gives amazing support to its members and to the surrounding community. They have a focus on health and community... above profits.
5. What are some of the accomplishments related to physical fitness that you are most proud of?
Do you have any fitness goals moving forward? Greater mobility in my back, shoulders and hammies. I'm working toward 100 unbroken T2B
6. How has being physically active bettered your life outside of the gym? Great rest, focus on health, productivity and balance.
7. What is your favorite class or movement/skill? What is your least favorite movement?
Favorite skill / movement - T2B, MU - Ring and Bar because I couldn’t do any of them in the beginning and they took YEARS to figure out. I love classes / coaches that get right in front of you and say “no rep” JK. It’s great when they look me in the eye and say something to help me improve.
Least favorite - there isn’t really anything I really dislike, the movements that are less exciting make all the other movements more fun. It’s all great, it’s all challenging. The fun thing aboutCrossFit for me is it allows me to be able to try lots of other physical activities I don’t do much and can jump in and have fun at like a 10k, tri, 1/2marathon, swim, long bike ride....oh that reminds me I don’t really like the assault bike.
8. What advice would you give to someone looking to join FitHAUS? I don’t give advice until I know something about the person asking. I like to know what they are looking for, because CrossFit isn't for everyone.
