FitHAUS Featured Athlete...Tami Greiber

Part of why we love doing FitHAUS featured Athletes is so that you can learn more about the great people in our community that are cheering you on to get you through your WOD.

This week we are happy to feature Tami Greiber as our FitHAUS Featured Athlete. She has been with FitHAUS since May of 2016 and has attended over 800 classes! You can find her hustling hard at nearly every 8:15 class we offer.

We all have our reasons for making fitness a really important part of our lives…maybe it’s to feel good physically, to maintain strength and mobility, or maybe it’s to live a long and healthy life.

Tami started her journey fora different reason. After a personal tragedy, Tami turned her grief into something positive. In 2011 Tami sadly lost her husband to a long battle with cancer. With the help of her friend Karen Kasner, Tami used fitness and exercise to help get her through that incredibly difficult time. Below is more about Tami:

FH - Tell us a little bit about yourself, maybe something we don’t know.

TG - In addition to exercising at FitHAUS, I have a passion for the Vikings, movies, boating and for trying out new restaurants/foods.  A fun fact is that since 1990 I have seen every Academy Award best picture nominated movie prior to the actualOscars award show. This hobby makes the winter go fast. My biggest passion is foreign travel.  Our family motto is "ExperiencesOver Stuff!" I'm very proud of my children, Ryan (age 24 at Ameriprise), Ellie (age 22 at Travelers) and Ben (age 20 at the U of M). They have enjoyed taking CrossFit classes at FitHAUS while home on summer breaks as well.

FH - What made you decide to join FitHAUS? What were you doing prior to coming to FH?

TG - Exercise and friendship really gave me the adrenaline boost I needed as a single parent after my husband John lost his battle with cancer in 2011.  That same year, my dear friend and neighbor, Karen Kasner, suggested that we try out some personal training sessions two times a week in Wayzata. A few years later, we chose to try the new, local True Champion which then became FitHAUS.

Now we carpool together from our nearby neighborhood for the 8:15am class five times a week.  FitHAUS is much more economical than personal training and way more fun.  I love the casual style; I like that I can be myself and wow, it is a great bonus to continue to meet so many wonderful people.

FH - What are some of the accomplishments related to physical fitness that you are most proud of. Do you have any fitness goals moving forward?

TG - I'm proud that I can still keep up with the lifting and the cardio.  I just learned to box jump at age 57. I was always too scared of a box jump injury.  Both Coach Kayla and Stacy Royal encouraged me to try it and I learned that it was all just mind over matter.

FH - What is your favorite class or movement/skill? What is your least favorite movement?

TG - I secretly enjoy when we jump rope, and I do not enjoy Kelsey's clock walks.

FH - What advice would you give to someone looking to join FitHAUS?

TG - Give it a try. You can be yourself.  No one will judge you.  You will leave with more energy than you came with and also gain a whole bunch of like-minded fun friends.

Tami, we are incredibly proud of you … not just for being a badass box jumper, but because you did something really amazing. You took your tragedy and used fitness and wellness to help persevere for yourself and your family. Thank you for being such a dedicated FitHAUS member, and for sharing your story with us.
