FitHAUS featured Athlete...Sara Swenson

This week, we have chose to feature Sara Swenson as our FitHAUS featured athlete. Sara has been a FitHAUS member since before it was FitHAUS! You can find Sara at just about any type of class we offer at FitHAUS, and she does everything from CrossFit to strength, to yoga. Sara is one of those athletes who grinds through each WOD with grace and determination. She’ll push herself to the very last minute of that AMRAP, never quitting until the clock stops. Check out her answers to some of our questions to learn more about Sara. Kudos to you Sara, for making fitness such a big part of your life. We are so proud of you, and so thankful you that you have chosen FitHAUS!

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself

A little a bout me...I'm a mom of 2 teenagers, I work for a 3D printing company as an organizational development manager (someone can ask me if that's a foreign term!), I am in graduate school for human resources development, I LOVE to travel (favorite spot is anywhere I've been but I'll choose Hawaii) and a hobby is learning about nutrition and wellbeing. 

2. What made you decide to join FitHAUS? What were you doing prior to coming to FitHAUS

I've been a FitHAUS member for over 4 years and my husband encouraged me to try it out.  His support to remain fit is something I'm really grateful for. Before FitHAUS, I'd been working out at home and had a lot of experience lifting (light) weights and using the treadmills at Lifetime and I'm NEVER going back!

3. What is your favorite thing about FitHAUS?

My favorite things about FitHAUS is the people, the supportive, non judgmental environment, the push I get from just watching others and the great workout and variety of class options.

4. What are some of the accomplishments related to physical fitness that you are most proud of. Do you have any fitness goals moving forward?

Any PR is an accomplishment for me and so is the rope climb. I'm just thrilled that, past my mid-40's, I'm doing what I'm doing.  I'm in this for the long-run and my big goal is healthy joints and muscles so I can keep living my life. 

5. How has being physically active bettered your life outside of the gym?

Working out has been a habit for many years - it's like flossing my teeth - I can't imagine my life without it.  I think it keeps me mentally balanced and happy.  A few years ago, when I was in another job and not very happy,having my version of success at FitHAUS helped me through that challenging period.

6. What is your favorite class or movement/skill? What is your least favorite movement?

My least favorite moves include T2B and pull ups because I can't do many since I haven't yet learned how to kip!  The rope, while I can climb it, intimidates the heck out of me.  My favorite moves are wall balls (bring on the Karen workout), rowing and the push jerk.

7. What advice would you give to someone looking to join FitHAUS? 

WhatI tell my friends who workout at FitHAUS but don't do CrossFit is that CrossFit is for everyone at any level. You start where you're at and there is no judgement.  But, the HIIT and Strength and Conditioning classes are great workouts too - something for everyone.
