FitHAUS Featured Athlete...Kyle Zigelsky

This week we are excited to feature one of our newer FITHAUS athletes Kyle Zigelsky. Kyle became a FitHAUS member just this last June, and if you were to see him in the gym, you'd never know that he is new to CrossFit. Kyle continues to impress us with his strength and agility. He’s one of those athletes that tries a new skill and just crushes it.

Kyle, we are so happy you have joined us at FitHAUS, and we are so impressed with your progress in such a short period of time. We cannot wait to see where you go from here. Next up...Ring Muscle Ups?

1.   Tell us a little bit about yourself, something that we may not know.

I am originally from Tennessee, where the winters are a smidgen warmer than here.  I met my lovely, fellow FitHAUS wife, Emma, while in graduate school at Yale. She's a true Minnesotan, so of course we moved back after graduating!

I have been in MN for nearly 6 years now living in St. Paul before moving to Long Lake 1.5 years ago. I’m a physician assistant at Hennepin County Medical Center specializing in orthopedic surgery.

I went to the University of Alabama, roll tide! I love trying new restaurants with Emma! I’ve got two awesome chicken nuggets; Arne is our rambunctious, nearly 3 year old, and Freya is our super chill 8 month old. I'm currently learning how to snowboard, and it’s not going too well...

2.   What made you decide to join FitHAUS? What were you doing prior to coming to FH?

Emma and new gym owner, Nicole, are colleagues at the U. When we moved to Long Lake she encouraged us to come try the gym out!

Before joining I was kind of a slug. We hopped from gym to gym but was not very dedicated.

3.   What is your favorite thing about FitHAUS?

The camaraderie is great. Consistently being challenged from head to toe by the workouts. Tips, and technique adjustments from the coaches.

4.   What are some of the accomplishments related to physical fitness that you are most proud of. Do you have any fitness goals moving forward?

I feel more comfortable about my self image now that I've been more consistent with my fitness. I am very happy that I am able to set a good example of what fitness is and how to create a positive body image to my two kiddos-especially my daughter in this day and age.

My goal is to continue to be consistent with my time in the gym (a quick medical plug: https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/fitness/expert-answers/exercise/faq-20057916) and to stay safe while doing so to make this a life long activity.

5.   How has FitHAUS, or being physically active bettered your life outside of the gym?

My knees and back ache less throughout the day. I feel I have an extra spring in my step. Being active is a big part of Emma and I's relationship too, so it has been great to do this with her.

6.   What is your favorite class or movement/skill? What is your least favorite movement?

As a favorite lift I'd say either the clean or snatch.

The worst is, hands down, front rack reverse lunges. Barf.

7. What advice would you give to someone looking to join FITHAUS?

FitHAUS is a welcoming gym that is easily modified to get beginners and elite athletes a great workout. Come join the fun!
