FitHAUS Featured Athlete...Katie Parks

This week we are excited to feature FitHAUS Athlete Katie Parks. Katie is such a consistent athlete. You can count on Katie to be at they gym nearly every Monday through Friday. She does everything from Strength and Conditioning, to Barre and Yoga. Katie always works hard, and inspires others to do the same. Speaking of inspiring, Katie and her son Henry did the FitHAUS Labor Day Throwdown together and it was so awesome to see a mom and son duo! Katie's passion for fitness and wellness has clearly rubbed off on her kids. Katie, you are such a strong woman, and such a great role model. We've seen you grow so much in this past year and are so proud of you! Thank you for choosing FitHAUS.

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself:

I have been married to my husband, Tom, for almost 16 years. We have four kids- Henry (11), Charlie (9), Beatrice (7),& Louise (7).  We also have a 10-month-old bernedoodle named Poppy. Before kids, I was an elementary teacher. I’m currently living my dream of being a stay at home mom! I enjoy cooking, baking & crafting. I channel my inner 50s housewife daily!

2. What made you decide to join FitHAUS? What were you doing prior to coming to FH?

We moved to Long Lake about a year ago from the Atlanta area. I was looking for a place close by that didn’t involve traffic! Several people in my neighborhood recommended FitHAUS & after my trial week, I was hooked! Prior to FH, I went to Orange Theory for several years & did a lot of running (& prior to that I was at a big box gym).

3. What is your favorite thing about FitHAUS?

It’s hard to pick one favorite thing! I love the coaching, the variety of workouts, & of course the community!

4. What are some of the accomplishments related to physical fitness that you are most proud of. Do you have any fitness goals moving forward?

I’m definitely stronger than I ever have been! I have so much admiration for all the ladies & gents that can do all the crazy strong stuff in the gym. So many goals but improving my upper body strength is at the top of the list.

5. How has being physically active bettered your life outside of the gym?

I love being active with my kids! My oldest is starting to be faster & stronger than me but there is nothing better than getting a great workout in together. I’m a much better mom & wife when I’m physically active. And I’m at a better place mentally- less anxiety & better sleep.Long term, I want to grow old with my husband & enjoy my children as adults(& hopefully future grandchildren!).

6. What is your favorite class or movement/skill? What is your least favorite movement...like the one that causes the biggest eye roll when your coach says we are doing "X" today;)

I love all the classes as they work the body in different ways! Kelsey’s MMF, Amanda’s “how did she come up with that?” moves, Heather’sfun choreographed sequences, Julie’s wise cracks & dance moves,& Katie & Nicole’s encouragement & dedication to form haveall helped me want to head to the gym each day. I love RDLs, dead lifts &core work. I despise the assault bike but also have learned to appreciate it!

7. What advice would you give to someone looking to join FITHAUS?

Nothing compares to the community at FitHAUS. It’s an hour everyday that I can take my mom hat off & talk to adults while getting in a great workout! It’s hard. It’s fun. And there has never been a day that I regret going (except for the days I nailed my shin on a box! Haha!).
