This week's Friday's featured athlete is Emily Kadue. Emily has been attending FitHAUS for 2 years and has attended nearly 600 classes. You will often find Emily at the 5:30am CrossFit Class, giving each class everything she has got. Emily has participated in 4 different Ragnar races with our FitHAUS teams, 2 Murphs, and is always a strong competitor in our FitHAUS Labor Day Throwdown. We are pretty pumped, because Emily just recently completed her L1 Crossfit Certification training. As a former cheerleader and marathon runner, Emily has always been athletic, but we can’t help but notice that she makes everything look easy in the gym. Emily,we are so lucky to call you a FitHAUS member and are so proud of all of your fitness accomplishments.
Q: Tell us a little about you (that we might not know)?
EK: I am an Alabama girl and have lived in MN for 15 years now. My husband’s name is Brad, we have Emma Claire (11) and Arnold (9). I spend much of my “free” time in the hockey rink or at the soccer field watching the kids play sports and as much time as possible on the lake in the summer.
Fun fact: huge SEC football fan. Brad and I met while we were cheerleaders at Ole Miss. I was on the cheerleading squad the 4 years I was there.
Q: What made you decide to try FitHAUS (and what were you doing prior to coming in?
EK: I have always loved working out and enjoyed lots of different workouts, including training for marathons, before I found CrossFit. We moved to Orono in 2017. I drove by FitHAUS one day and saw a group of women running up and down the parking lot and decided to stop in. The rest is history!
Q: What is your favorite part of FitHAUS?
EK: Without a doubt, my favorite thing about FitHAUS is the community and friendships.
Q: What are some of the fitness-related accomplishments you're most proud of, and what are your goals going forward?
EK: I continue to work to get stronger! Every workout or race finished is a win :-). A goal of mine is to improve my gymnastics skills. I’m determined to get that handstand walk sooner or later! Also, going through the CrossFit Level 1 training has been on my mind for a while and I am proud to have just completed that.
Q: How has working out at FitHAUS bettered your life outside the gym?
EK: The workouts at FitHAUS have made me feel fitter and stronger now than ever. The relationships I have formed at the gym have made me feel more connected in the community as well.
Q: What advice you you give to someone considering joining FitHAUS?
EK: It’s a welcoming, not at all intimidating, environment. You’ll be so glad you tried it.
Q: What is your favorite class and what are your favorite movements (and least favorite movements)?
EK: I have a love/hate relationship with wall balls. I like deadlifts and working on handstand push ups. I panic a little when there are snatches in the workout.
