We're so excited to bring back our Friday Featured Athlete posts, and we thought we'd start back up with no other than, Dan Nagengast (a.k.a. Strong Dan). Dan is one of those athletes that just make class more fun! He's hilarious, has a great sense of humor, and someone who you can tell truly enjoys being at class. It always brightens our day when we see Dan walk in! Not only is he a great guy, though, he's also real strong and works amazingly hard! Dan has been such a great addition to our FitHAUS community and we are so thankful to have him! Thank you so much for choosing FitHAUS, Dan! We love having you ... and your awesome gloves ... at FitHAUS! Here's a little more about Dan (in his words) ...
1.Tell us a little bit about yourself?
DN: I have two boys (ages 4 & 2) and live with my wife on an 11-acre tree farm in Loretto. Before Covid I enjoyed golfing, hunting, boating, camping and playing hockey. I went to Wayzata High School, and after went to college to play football at Bemidji State. I have been to all 50 states. I was the first, and to my knowledge, the only hockey goalie to have a shut out at Fenway park in Boston.
2. What made you decide to join FitHAUS? What were you doing prior to coming to FH?
DN: Before FitHaus I was working out at another CrossFit gym for 4 years. When I decided it was time for a change, I received a glowing recommendation from Katie Klug and a few others to try out FitHaus. I came for my free week trial, and realized that the community and the coaching at FitHaus was superior to anything I have experienced before. In addition, the FitHaus facility was super clean and I could tell the owners continually invest into the gym to give their members a better experience.
3. What is your favorite thing about FitHAUS?
The coaches ... they truly support your fitness goals and encourage you to better yourself everyday (even though sometimes they call you out for going to light). Before Covid, the fact that FitHAUS had showers was also a huge plus for me.
4. What are some of the accomplishments related to physical fitness that you are most proud of. Do you have any fitness goals moving forward?
My biggest accomplishment this year was completing Murph for the first time by myself in 47 min. I plan on doing it again with my wife on Veterans day to see if I can beat my time.
5. How has FitHAUS, or being physically active bettered your life outside of the gym?
Since I started CrossFit, I have noticed that I am able to keep up with my two boys because I have more energy longer into the day. Also, my wife says I look better naked. (lol)
6. What is your favorite class or movement/skill? What is your least favorite movement?
Favorite - All the Olympic lifts Least- Thrusters, Burpees, really anything cardio related.
7. What advice would you give to someone looking to join FITHAUS?
if you are looking for a workout that is physically and mentally demanding but won’t take up a huge amount of your time, FitHaus is worth a try, but be careful it can be addicting.
